Week Four: Attitude
John 17:20-21
“I am praying not only for these
disciples but also for all who will ever
believe in me through their message.
(that’s us) I pray that they will all be
one, just as you and I are one—as you
are in me, Father, and I am in you. And
may they be in us so that the world will
believe you sent me.
Philippians 1:27-29
Above all, you must live as citizens of
heaven, conducting yourselves in a
manner worthy of the Good News about
Christ. Then, whether I come and see you
again or only hear about you, I will
know that you are standing together with
one spirit and one purpose, fighting
together for the faith, which is the
Good News. Don’t be intimidated in any
way by your enemies. This will be a sign
to them that they are going to be
destroyed, but that you are going to be
saved, even by God himself. For you have
been given not only the privilege of
trusting in Christ but also the
privilege of suffering for him. We are
in this struggle together.
How does Paul describe Jesus’
vision for our unity and oneness?
-
Citizens, must conduct
ourselves in a manner that is worthy of a citizen of
heaven.
-
One
Spirit - we are guided and
empowered by the Holy Spirit.
-
One
Purpose - Having purpose is
not enough, we must have unity of
purpose.
-
It is a
Fight and a Struggle, but not
a lonely one, we are in this thing
together.
-
There will be
opposition to
unity.
Philippians 2:1-4
Therefore if you have any encouragement
from being united with Christ, if any
comfort from his love, if any common
sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness
and compassion, then make my joy
complete by being like-minded, having
the same love, being one in spirit and
of one mind. Do nothing out of selfish
ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in
humility value others above yourselves,
not looking to your own interests but
each of you to the interests of the
others.
Philippians 2:5-8
In your relationships with one another,
have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:
Who, being in very nature God, did not
consider equality with God something to
be used to his own advantage; rather, he
made himself nothing by taking the very
nature of a servant, being made in human
likeness. And being found in appearance
as a man, he humbled himself by becoming
obedient to death — even death on a
cross!
Philippians 2:9-11
Therefore God exalted Jesus to the
highest place and gave him the name that
is above every name, that at the name of
Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven
and on earth and under the earth, and
every tongue acknowledge that Jesus
Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the
Father.
